The healthcare story of Gujarat so far ! After many complaints and reports from the state over the mistreatment of Covid-19 patients, HC slammed the state government for the mismanagement.
With India entering the top 10 list of the worst-hit nations, the country’s healthcare systems are on the verge of collapse. With the increase in demand for ICUs and ventilators across the country, the need for more balanced healthcare infrastructure grows rapidly. Following the same concern, Gujarat high court earlier this month harshly criticised the BJP led state government for not being able to control the situation and severely pointed out the poor conditions of the civil hospital in Ahmedabad 'as good as a dungeon'. Further, a bench of Justice J.N. Pardiwala, after hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on issues regarding the operations of the healthcare department on Covid-19 situation, issued several directions to the state government to refine facilities and improve treatments. He compared the infrastructure of Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad to the sinking of the Titanic. He also mentioned that many patients in the hospital all over the state are dying due to lack of ventilators and other medical facilities. Over the availability of hospital beds, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) asked all private and trust-fund hospitals to share their health facilities for both Covid-19 and non-covid patients.
